Power of the Tongue (A Story Analysis Essay of the Fable “Two Frogs”)

August 18, 2021 By Admin

Be careful of what you say. Our tongue is powerful; the words that come out from it may encourage or discourage, or it may destruct or construct someone who is down. There is power of life and death in the tongue.

In the fable “Two Frogs,” the power of words is given emphasis. In the beginning of the story, two frogs who fell into a deep pit did their best to get out of it. They were told by the other frogs to stop from jumping out of the pit because they were good as dead already. The other one stopped, while the other continued until he got out of the pit.

The deep pit here symbolizes problem. Sometimes, in our journey we face different struggles that we even almost surrender without giving a good fight like what the other frog did. We lack self-confidence and we just simply listen to what others say toward us. We sometimes believe in them than in ourselves, than in our capabilities. We should always remember that we know who we are than what others know about us.

The other frogs in the story tell us that in this world, there are people who will push us down when we are into problems. Instead of pulling us up, and giving us encouragement, they prefer to push us more into the deep pit. Let us not turn our backs from them, and never let them manipulate the future of our life. There unceasing cries telling the two frogs to stop from jumping out are words that are so powerful. And it is up to us if we will listen to them, or not. If we are one of these frogs, we should always keep in our minds that there is always power of life and death to every word we utter toward someone. Let us all be sensitive to every word that come out from our mouth.

Speak life to those people who come our way. Life, in a way that we give them hope and encouragement. We do not know the capacity and capability of the other people, yet we can help them through our words. Sometimes, it is hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. It can be a medicine to those who are down and can help them make it through the day. The power of words… Blessed are those who take time to encourage other people through the power of words.

Baking Without an Oven (A Process Essay)

Have you ever wanted to bake a cake without an oven? Or you have dreamed of it yet never come into realization? Baking a cake does not always need an oven. All you have to do is to be creative, innovative and experimental.

Let us start first with ingredients. Many thought baking a cake is a complex and sensitive process. Never will it be if we are creative enough. We can create our own ingredients according to what we like. In this article, I will be talking about puto cake. What we need are cake flour, eggs, refined sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and evaporated milk. For flavor, we may use vanilla, cinnamon, or any liquid flavor we wish to have.

After having these ingredients measured and ready, separate the egg yolk from the egg white and start making your meringue. Beat the egg white first, then gradually add the sugar and the cream of tartar. You may use electric mixer, or you may have it manually, using an egg beater. But it will take time for you to form the meringue. See to it that your meringue is stiff enough, that it may not spill out from the mixing bowl if you turn the bowl down.

Before mixing the flour mixture, start boiling water in a steamer. See to it that the water will be enough until your cake is cooked.

In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, the sugar, baking powder and milk. Mix well. After mixing it well, cut and fold it with the meringue. Add the flavor you wish in your puto cake.

Next, line a wax paper on your round cake pan and pour the mixture into it. Drop it slowly on the table to eliminate some bubbles within the mixture. Then, put it in the steamer and steam until cooked or until such a clean stick or toothpick comes out clean after inserting it in the middle of your cake.

Although this is a cake, you don’t need to use oven. Sometimes, creativity comes when we really desire to do what we wish to do. Baking is just a simple experiment. Just have some patience, and apply innovations. Remember, we can always find ways even in the absence of what we really need.

MODULAR LEARNING MODALITY INTERVENTION AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Article by ANNE FE A. NAVAL

Delivery of Education in the country has greatly changed because of the corona virus 2019 pandemic. In order to protect the health of learners and educators, teaching had to be performed remotely with use of modular and digital platforms.

In a statement on May 8, 2020 by the Education Secretary Leonor M. Briones said that the basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) is the Department of Education’s major response and commitment in protecting the health, safety and well-being of the learners, teachers and personnel. She added that education must continue under the health protocols set by the Department of Health and world Health Organization. The IATF approved the BE-LCP to ensure that learning progresses among students despite the absence of face-to-face classes due to the threat of COVID-19

With these, every school has crafted School BE-LCP in response to the call of the department. All teachers conducted survey to the parents as to their best choice of modality. Options were provided to parents as to how their school children can continue their studies but learning through printed and digital modules emerged as the most preferred distance learning method by most of the parents. Several recommendations were gathered. But since internet connection is the main problem in some places, MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING was then born.

In one year of modular implementation, different effects were being noticed. Good or bad, the Department of Education has never run out of unlimited interventions to make the programs successful. Expertise of school leaders was being tested. Unstoppable and unexpected scenarios were frequent. Everything came clashing. Scarcity of resources and diversity of learning needs in implementing distance learning became more crucial and the firmness of school leaders’ decision making became more essential. With all of that the school became more careful in giving solution to the chasing circumstances daily. And as a school head of a big school, the process of implementation of the BE-LCP was quite hard but when you have the immense love  to serve and make a difference to the life of your learners and a community as a whole, together with the different supportive stakeholders, everything will be easier and definitely fulfilling. Buenasuerte Integrated School invigorated the excitement of implementing modular distance learning when we decided to identify the causes of the problems and proposed solutions, do some  financial budgeting in order to  provide 1:1 printing materials to our teachers, include bridging the gap to our learners who need intensive assistance and uphold the burning of passion of teachers and school head to implement the program for the welfare of the young Filipino learners. Every action we made was always aligned to achieving the desired goal of the DepEd mission and vision. Today even the country is still at the state of emergency health crisis; our school has always been ready. Resources for making of SLMs for modular Distance Learning were enough through the back to back provision of Division Office and school MOOE, teachers were equipped through the different webinars and seminars provided by the department and stakeholders are prepared to face whatever challenges come across this coming years amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

STRENGHTENING STAKEHOLDER’S ENGAGEMENT AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

August 18, 2021 By Admin

Article by ANNE FE A. NAVAL

Nothing is permanent in this world. This is indeed the real scenario of our situation now. Gone were the days that we heard our school children playing in our school playground, chasing each other and enjoying everything under the sun and gone were those days that we work hand in hand with our stakeholders tangibly. Today everything has changed. The school is occupied with so much silence. Activities that need the presence of stakeholders are limited. But behind the crisis still, Department of Education firmly believed that education must continue.

Pandemic has thought us a lot of things. Realization came rushing that constant change is real. With the challenges brought to us by this COVID 19 pandemic, there is one thing that remains true- the importance of stakeholders in education in this trying time. Stakeholders in education has three categories; the learners as stakeholders, family as stakeholders and school as stakeholders. How do these people act with this crisis? One of the most important things I have learned being an education leader is to deal with the stakeholders through open communication. Communication is an important part of stakeholder’s engagement and one that we should always put great care into as a school head. It is transactional and impersonal. It is a part of the bigger goal of connections. We can make great strides in engaging with them by intentionally setting our sights on what really matter. Let us focus on human connection, collaboration and relationship strength first and always. Once we do this, TRUST forms. We always remember that Relational Trust is the best currency of partnership.

When every school pivoted a virtual and modular learning environment last year, parents and family members suddenly became active in assisting their children and engaged in teaching and learning process though some of our stakeholders are also carrying anxiety and fear into this situation full of uncertainties but they managed to carry ideas and resources. The goal is, as always to create a positive atmosphere for learning and growth full hope and opportunity. The only true way to work through this, is to connect with each other in open, transparent dialogue with all stakeholders, include them in every decision making and project proposals so that everyone feels seen, heard and valued. While covid-19 has thrown us many obstacles, we can lean into the opportunities by embracing all stakeholders, including learners in rich, dynamic connection and collaboration. Let us not get tired of taking risks, fall forward and re-imagine a more caring and equitable education because I confidently and positively believe that filling the gas tank, enough momentum, TOGETHER we can maneuver small hills no matter how rough our road in achieving quality education behind COVID-19 pandemic for our school children.

THE CAPTIVE QUEEN

June 7, 2021 By Admin

Photo by Larm Rmah on Unsplash

Wondering was I
in this path of mine
filled with flowers in radiant hue
Wearing a crown
an elegant gown, colored blue
Yes, princess I am
with a face that makes a man crawl
a body that melts his soul

I acquainted a thorn on my way
it pierced my feet and drew blood away
Late nights gave me shrieking terror
Hearing dirty words
Sensing libidinous thoughts
Realizing, his game was an endless error

Silence—
‘twas winter
cold wind
heavy rain
yowling!

Silence—
‘twas winter
black shadow
fading!
A vile plot and I
with a scarlet knife

I closed my eyes
wishing the time would pass by
I desired to wear a mask
that gives darkness to universe,
makes every mirror shatter
No one will ever glance
A mask…
that I never had even once

My path of bliss is now in despair
A glimpse of melting shelter
The hands that wiped my tears
The hearts that erased my fears
This home…
I started releasing

My fate uncovers an asylum
odd solicitude holds this room
I am in a castle
where sunflowers shine to see
a tangerine dress embraces me
Princess, am I? Nay!
I am a queen, blithe and captive.
